In this project, our team carried out mercury decontamination after a spill in a children’s room. The client accidentally broke a mercury thermometer and, in a panic, attempted to clean up the mercury using a vacuum cleaner, which only worsened the situation.
Using a vacuum cleaner to clean up spilled mercury is extremely dangerous, as the hot air inside the device accelerates mercury evaporation and spreads toxic vapors throughout the room. As a result, the concentration of mercury vapors in the room increased, and mercury particles settled inside the vacuum cleaner, making it unsafe for further use.
We conducted a thorough cleaning of the room using specialized tools to collect the remaining mercury. To neutralize mercury vapors, the space was treated with high concentrations of ozone, which significantly reduced the level of mercury contamination.
As a result, the room was fully cleaned and made safe for further use.
